Terms of Service
Last updated: 19 September 2026
These are the terms for buying and using The Brazilian Academy (also referred to as the Street Fluency System), sold by Gustavo Barbosa, trading as Language Barbosa (“I,” “me,” “we”). By purchasing or using the product you agree to them. They’re written in plain English on purpose. if anything here is unclear, email barbosalanguage@gmail.com before you buy.
1. What you’re buying
The Brazilian Academy is sold in two packages.
The Full System gives you personal access to:
- the video course (60 lessons across four phases) and its drills;
- the Brazilian Academy web app at languagebarbosa.com/app, including the pronunciation lab, spaced-repetition drills, scripts, slang map, cheat sheets, listening, checkpoints and search;
- the downloadable Anki decks and native-audio files;
- membership of the private student community, hosted on Skool;
- every update to the above released during your access period, at no extra charge.
Survive is Phase 1 of the same system on its own: lessons 1 to 17 and their drills, the Survive web app at languagebarbosa.com/app2 (the same drills, without the pronunciation lab), the Phase 1 decks and audio, and membership of the community. Everything you pay for Survive counts in full toward the Full System if you upgrade later.
Everything listed is available from the moment your payment is confirmed. Access details arrive by email; if they haven’t arrived within one hour, check your spam folder and then email me.
2. Price and payment
The Full System is $297 USD paid once, or a payment plan of two monthly payments of $155 USD or three monthly payments of $115 USD. Survive is $97 USD paid once. Regular enrollment for the Full System is $397; the price you pay is the one shown at checkout on the day you buy. Payments are processed by Stripe; I never see or store your card details. Prices are in US dollars; your bank may apply currency conversion or foreign-transaction fees, which are outside my control.
A payment plan is the full price paid in instalments, not a subscription you can stop early. By choosing a plan you agree to all of its payments. Access is granted in full after the first payment, and the plan ends by itself after the last one. If a later payment fails or is cancelled, access is suspended until the balance is settled.
3. Length of access
Every purchase made on or after 18 September 2026 includes twelve months of access from the date of purchase to the course, the app and the community, with every update released in that year. Purchases made before 18 September 2026 keep the lifetime access they were sold with, meaning for as long as The Brazilian Academy exists as a product. If I ever have to discontinue it, I will give at least 90 days’ notice by email and make the course videos, decks and audio available for download so you keep what you paid for. The web app and the community depend on third-party services (hosting, speech-scoring, Skool) and so can’t be promised in perpetuity in the same way, but I’ll keep them running for as long as the product is sold.
4. Your account and licence
Your purchase is a personal, non-transferable licence for one person. Please don’t share your login, post the lessons or drills elsewhere, or resell any part of the material. The course content, app, audio, decks and scripts are my copyrighted work; you may use them for your own learning, and nothing else. If an account is clearly being shared or the material redistributed, I may close it without refund.
5. The community
The student community is a place to ask questions and practise, with me and native Brazilian speakers in it. I answer questions personally and hold a live onboarding session for each intake and a monthly live Q&A; these are recorded and posted for anyone who can’t attend. I don’t promise a specific response time. Be decent to the other people in the room. I may remove anyone who is abusive, spams, or harasses other members, with no refund outside the windows in the refund policy.
6. Cohorts, bonuses and pricing
The Full System is sold in small cohorts, each capped so I can review voice notes personally. A cohort starts together with an onboarding week and may have its own announced bonuses. Bonuses belong to the cohort they’re announced with and aren’t carried over to later cohorts. The core product is identical whenever you join. Pricing can change between cohorts; the price you paid is never raised on you afterwards.
7. Refunds
Every purchase carries a seven-day, any-reason refund. The Full System also carries the 90-Day Conversation Guarantee, which has conditions. Both are spelled out, along with what happens on a payment plan, at languagebarbosa.com/refund-policy. Purchases made before 18 September 2026 keep the 30-day window they were sold with.
8. What I don’t promise
I promise the product described above and the refund policy, including the 90-Day Conversation Guarantee on the terms set out there. Beyond that I don’t promise a particular outcome: how far your Portuguese goes depends on how much of the system you use. Timeframes in the marketing (for example “conversational in 90 days”) describe what the system is built to do at the stated pace of 15 to 20 minutes a day; the guarantee is what backs them, and its conditions are in the refund policy.
The app’s pronunciation scoring is an automated aid, not a certification. The community includes native speakers sharing their knowledge in good faith; it is not formal instruction and regional usage varies.
9. Technical requirements
The app runs in a modern web browser on a phone or computer with an internet connection; nothing needs to be installed. The pronunciation lab needs microphone access. The Anki decks require the free Anki software (the iOS version of Anki is sold separately by its developer, not by me).
10. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced by email and in the community. Continued use after a change means you accept it; if you don’t, email me.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. Nothing in them limits any rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country you live in.
